Your Ultimate Retro Summer Movie Binge Watching Guide

Not sure what to do with your summer? Do you have that "summer time sadness" creeping in? Calm down I have the mother list of Retro films to keep you occupied. Most of them are 80's films but movies from the 70's and 90's are included too. In general I tried to stay away from the movies we see playing on TV so much that they feel like they might have came out last summer.... and went for more obscure titles. I threw in some of the iconic ones too, particularly ones I haven't see on rotation recently. I categorized the films like a play list..I'm your movie VJ so to speak. So while some films might fall into another category too..I had a particular mindset planned for the weekend they are placed in.  Have fun...and pace yourself!!!

Top 15 Beauty tips that I know for a fact work.

The vast majority of beauty tips you read online are complete bunk. You can't trust make-up tips..its all trying to sell you something. So I compiled a list of my favorite products and tips. These are all things that give INSTANT results and work. Not bunk, not selling you anything. Just someone who has tried it all and learned the hard way. I haven't even see the vast majority of these things on any beauty list..so ..here you go!!

1) Here is the best advice I ever got from a fashion blogger. Want your outfits to look more together..more photo ready? Then you want layers. ..layers..and jewelry..hats ..great shoes. its a whole outfit idea. Its also how stylists for top magazines dress their models. Once I implemented this technique and remembered to add dimension to my outfits (when I have time obviously) I started immediately getting lots of compliments. There I have spilled my secret.

2.) Lotion with caffeine in it is the single best over the counter skin product I have ever tried. It does the same thing for your skin that it does for you mind early in the morning. It instantly makes your skin look less fatigued.

3.) Evian facial spray is awesome. It refreshes your make up, keeps your make up from caking, and just feels good when you are feeling a bit exhausted. You don't have to buy this brand, its just what I get any water based brumisateur will do. I have a huge off brand 12oz can I keep in my gym bag for after workouts.

4.) Perfume brushed into your hair makes it smell wonderful. I just spray it on my hair brush right before I style.

5.) Toothpaste is by far the best thing for acne I have ever tried..and at some point I have tried it all. Toothpaste, I have recently learned... is decent for scars too.

6.) Sally Henson leg makeup makes your legs look ridiculously good. if you don't or can't tan I suggest investing in some for when you are bare legged. If you have never used it..let me assure you it is a game changer. I apply with a moisturizer for even perfection. Unlike bronzers, this is easy to get on evenly.

7.) If you are prone to bad ingrown hairs..consider investing in a vibrating razor. I don't know why it works.. but it does. I struggled my entire life with terrible ingrown hairs until I tried one. It is the only thing that has worked for me..and I tried everything else. Hard core sufferers know exactly what I am talking about, and this is worth trying to see if it will work for you.

8.) They are hard to find, but white sticks for your nails are amazing. You run them under the white of your nails and it gives you an instant no paint manicure.

9.) Make a paste with crushed aspirin for inflamed skin or acne to take swelling down. It works!

10.) If you truly want a larger mouth just buy that 24 hour lip stick/gloss. The thick matte kind like super stay 24 hour. Line your lips with that and fill.. then Right and I mean right outside of your mouth line your lips with a lip liner..then go over that with the 24 hr. make up. repeat until you get the look you want. then put a SLIGHTLY lighter color eye shadow in the center of your lips. Don't go crazy with it, its make up after all not surgery..but it works well. if you are schooled at it..its not obvious. The key is not taking it to far.

11.) I like to buy those perfume trial sized kits with tons of scents in them.. this way I can change up daily. You get way more for your money this way!

12.) Hey Instagram butt models..stop putting your fingers under your butt to give it a definition....just swipe a dark bronzer under there...and save me from having to look at your obvious attempts to create an in shape ass.

13.) I've noticed that when people wear foundation that is a shade or two lighter than their skin tone, they seem younger looking. I'm not sure why, its like a natural filter.

14.) Hawaiian tropic makes a helluva dry oil spray if you are lazy and dont like to put moisturizer on. Smells good too. This is just my preference over rubbing in lotion..any dry oil spray will work.

15.)  Don't bother with those expensive wraps ladies. You get better results by wrapping your spot you are wanting to reduce and then workign out or if you are rather lazy sitting in a sauna. Obviously this is a temporary fix for an event or what have you. No WRAP can give you permanent weight loss. I don't care what they tell you.

twilight...50 shades of grey for the under 18 set.

Twilight is a terrible movie franchise. Just really awful. I thought about this as one of my friends posted that if you talk about watching Twilight sage and are also a loud feminists..she was deleting them. While I personally dont care if you enjoy watching terrible cinema I understand her angst. Probably not for the same reasons she has.

Sure I get feminists hate Bella. They all have valid points but...seriously though there are so many reasons to hate her that have nothing to do with feminism and more to do with just being a good person. Bella is not a good person. Not by any stretch of the imagination. I don't hate Bella because I'm a feminist, I hate Bella because she is the worst kind of person. Relating to my high school days she would have been the kind of girl I was friends with in high school or college or at least friendly with.  I also would have secretly hated her.

Bella is a horrible daughter.   Am I the only person who sees this. At no point do I see her as caring about her parents much at all.  I swear had she been my child I probably would have smacked the shit out of her and grounded her. No you are not going out with the weird doctors kid. You are going to your room and doing your home work.  It is a defining characteristic about her. She is arrogant and immature and exactly the kind of person who in real life would have terrible things happen to them, for lack of listening to her parents.

she is the worst kind of friend. The kind of person you welcome with open arms, who them dumps you the second a guy is in the picture. Nothing matters except the guy. Not your friends, school or anything else. The kind of girl who after being dumped would more than likely in real life call you crying their eyes out, as if you their "friend" really care after being dumped by them in the first place. She is the kind of person who is boring and tiresome to the rest of the world who has a life and things they are doing besides just searching for a boy. AND THAT is of course why so many women love Bella. How many of us know that girl from school or even now who is always obsessed with some man..always. They don't seem to concerned with their family and friends come and go. Everyone is their best friend so..no one is really. They use people and are surprised with this behavior leads to them in turn being used. Sure in Twilight everything works out..which is a person like that's dream come true.  They can be self centered and still get everything they ever wanted, which of course doesn't happen in real life.

Then girl goes off into crazy self centered girl mode. Yes, I knew girls like this in real life. After her dream man breaks up with her she basically tries to do things to physically harm herself in order to hear his voice again or see him again. What the actual fuck. Never mind that she has parents who would be upset over her death or that it's just plain CRAZY, no gotta hear his voice. Reminds me of a couple girls I know who would drive by their boyfriends houses at night if they didn't text back immediately or if they broke up. Yes feminists I know you are reading these books or watching the movies and really missing the fact that women like this ACTUALLY EXIST. Bella's character isn't really that fanciful.

Then Bella gets worse..once she is engaged to Edward she continues to talk to and lead on the other guy Jacob. Tell me you ladies don't know at least a couple of women EXACTLY like Bella. I sure have. Gotta keep the door open with some other guy and lead them on just in case..right Bella? ugh. Of course a guy who likes you wouldn't be strong enough to just move on.. so how about don't lead him on. ..but of course it's all about her..the whole book is.

The problem with Bella is that she is way to much like so many young girls I knew growing up. I don't mind a story where a girl waits for a white knight. I'm not concerned that a character isn't a good role model (after all some of the best most interesting characters aren't good role models). I don't mind a message that says wait until you are married to have sex or an anti abortion message. Movies are about fantasy, I get that many women have the fantasy where a big strong guy saves the day. That's fine..the REAL problem with Bella is that she tells women that being a self centered twit is totally fine. It's a good thing. The problem with Twilight is that Bella is a bad character even when one looks at her under a conservative  microscope. She is the most annoying person you could meet in real life. She is that girl who only goes out if there might be someone cool there. She is that girl who never takes your calls after she gets a boyfriend.

Lots and lots of thought and articles have been written on Bella..Bella as wish fulfillment for plain boring girls world wide, Bella as a christian role model...Bella as an anti feminist terrible role mode. Do you want to know what I think the secret of the novel is?? The real truth..why so many women read the book..because deep down lost of women are like this They were able to accept and even like the character-not because it was a white knight fantasy book (afterall there are hundreds of such novels) no they like Bella because deep down they are just as self centered as Bella. Watching the movies by part two I was pretty disgusted with Bella's actions and wanted to punish her. I thought to myself what I would have done to her had that been MY child. ..and that's why Bella is popular and terrible at the same time.

*og wait I had to add something else.. Also Edward and Jacob are both pedophiles. Its pretty creepy..but thats a whole other article.

Meryl Streep, have you forgot..there is no such thing as bad press?

So I thought really hard about if I should talk about this topic before I started writing. Inevitably someone will think I'm taking a side..one way or the other on the issue, and I'm not. However people don't want to hear the truth if it in ANY way contradicts who or what they agree with. If I point out a republican is being misquoted or their words twisted or they are misunderstood..well then I MUST side with that person. If I do the same for a democrat..then obviously I'm a triggered liberal. Sigh. No I just like the truth. I have become really good at reading headlines and seeing through the muck to find the grain of truth. Almost all politicians are misquoted and misrepresented by the "opposing" team. This absolutely includes both Trump and Clinton...and every other politician currently holding any real power. The problem with this is...it really doesn't matter.

Ms. Streep you didn't get up there and rant about politics because you thought you were making any real difference. Your speech wasn't particularly encouraging..or enlightening..and in fact, was more elitist than you probably meant it to be. You in fact, for a reason I can not understand brought football and mma into it. (Ok, I personally thought that was funny, but did you really think that was a smart thing to say?) Except you knew what you said wasn't going to matter much didn't you. You knew liberals (even if they found your rant a tad strange) would clap and applaud you and you would make the news. Sure half of Americans would think you were a jerk, but then you also knew that half were still going to go to the movies. I mean even the most die hard conservative isn't going to stop watching all movies and TV shows even though they know 85% of all actors, directors and producers are very liberal.

So you say some things..things no one is that surprised to hear you say. In fact you rambled quite a bit. There was no point to what you said other than, I don't like Trump and I don't like the kind of people who are conservative...not one bit. That... no matter what said of the republican or democrat fence you are on... is bad press. At the end of the day she just cut off half of all Americans, that is exactly the definition of bad press..except of course there is no such thing as bad press. I mean yeah there is, but really, if you know how to spin it..it takes alot for bad press to actually be...bad. (see Chris Brown, BP, Kayne, and even OJ Simpson) No doubt her tv rant will earn her a role in some film and some people will fall in love with her all over again-the other half of America wasn't paying any attention to her anyway. Let's make no mistake here though, she helped Trump much more than she helped herself or any agenda she agrees with.

Here is the problem with your very verbal distaste of conservatism liberals.. One more time...do you know who benefited the most from her rant?? Trump. Let me brak this down for you. I knew Trump was going to win the nomination for the republican nominee. The man was in the news every damn day. All day. He was on Fox, CNN, MSNBC..Headline News, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, the water cooler ..I mean name a news source and his name was there.  People talked about him all day long. How was I the only person who seemed to know he would win? The other nominees were hardly even on the news...unless they were talking about Trump.  Was the news on Trump good news? Um, no. Almost every article, online discussion, or post about Trump was negative..but it kept his name in the news. This isn't something hard to figure out.

Liberals, every time you talk about Trump in public..every joke you make..every rant you go off on..only puts Trump name out there more. In fact I know people who didn't care for Trump that much..but the very fact that the left just hates him so much, has completely changed their view of the man..now they are "on his team". Funny how that works. This isn't high school, making fun of your opponent just isn't going to work.

At the end of the day..negative press, is still press.

The year the music died

I've never been one to actually morn a celebrity death. Not really, sure I'm shocked but not actually sad. It's fairly hard for me to feel sadness for a person I don't know. This year has been different though, every month of this year has been full of musicians and actors that have passed on way to young, and while I don't believe in curses.... at some point even the most adamant disbeliever must start to feel some kind of odd hoo-doo going on in 2016.
Then for us 80's kids if you think on the past few years its as if all of our favorite icons have went on to the next realm. Whitney and Michael Jackson had already died before all the 2016 deaths hit. Who is left now? We have Madonna and Janet Jackson who we will be force feeding kale to daily. We lost about 82 celebrities in 2016 and if you don't think that's a bit more than usual, then you are  delusional. Of course the 80's were full of sex and drugs and all the things that can lead to an early death. It's a reminder to all the aging generation x kids that life is short and we are mortal. No one lives forever.
I've seen plenty of posts telling everyone that this is normal and we always have celebrity deaths..and that is true but this misses the bigger point of who died and what generation they belonged to. They belonged to us,... all of us 32-42 year olds. They were our childhood. The celebrities of the 80s. They told us to stay off of drugs and told us to dance. We practiced our sick wrestling moves with them as they flickered on the TV screen behind us. They were the GREATEST, and our second fathers. We were with them as they journeyed through space to fight the dark side. We were proud to learn about them going to space and dreamed of being astronauts too. They were the ones that told us we could be heroes....one day
No, it's not the death of one 80's celebrity that has brought all of us down just a little bit in 2016, it was the death of our entire childhood. So I dedicate this article with love to all the people who helped make the 80's infamous. There will never be another goblin king or man who could jitter bug like there was in the 80's. Your gen x fans ..won't forget about you..
