The conjuring 2

Whatever happened to hour and a half long films? Why must all films be over 2 hours now? The conjuring 2 is a decent film but it was entirely to long and the best stuff doesn't happen until the last 1/4 of the movie. The main theme of this film is that of a love story..but they spend so much time setting the film up that you don't figure that out until the last 1/4th of the movie. Which is a shame because all horror movie fans know one of the best set ups for a horror movie is love, what wouldn't you do for someone you loved?
This is most certainly what Id call a religious film..the theme lays heavily on the idea that the warrens are a loving christian couple who face demons using only their faith in God to get them through. The theme is so blatant I was a bit surprised by it to be honest. It wasn't glossed over in the least. Often, even in films where the good guy is a religious person defeating a demon..they don't talk so much about their love and trust in God. I liked that though because for me, one of the reasons I enjoy horror films is the good guys (Christians or people of high morals) taking out the evil. The idea that God always wins. I however don't think the idea is pushed so much that non believers will be offended.
If you can stick with the film through the entire 2 plus hours the ending is well worth it. The special fx are spot on and there are definitely some new twists and turns in this film. It isn't one of those movies a horror fan will be watching over and over but it is definitely one of the better horror films to come out lately. So go ahead and buy a ticket..just make sure you pee before you go.
