How to travel...with style

It has been said that people do not take trips...trips take people. This is about as true of a statement as I have ever heard. I have been on the road 6 weeks in a row. I've been in more cities, from small towns to huge metropolises, than I can even remember. I spend more time on the road than at my house it seems! Over the past two years I have learned just a few things that will make your travels better. Here are a few of my very favorite things I take with me or do to make my life on the road amazing.

1. Dress in layers. My typical travel outfit is a tank top, a shirt, a jacket (and in the winter a coat too). I wear over leggins or jeans or dress pants as the situation demands. I almost never bring a dress on business only trips.

2. Flats. I wear heels when I'm in meetings and warm comfy flats in the car, or on the plane. I also go barefoot-alot. I don't recommend this, it's just my trait.:) However in a professional setting I always have cute flats. Fleece lined slip on boots in the winter and slip on bright sandals in the summer. (and flip flops too)

3. Don’t rush getting on and off the plane. How many times does everyone jump up as the plane gets to the gate — only to wait in line for 30 minutes or more before the door actually opens.

4. When traveling and you have to look great-use a primer (I like the one by hard candy) and a setter (I like the one by urban decay-all nighter). This way your make up stays on longer and doesn't get smeary and you don't look road hard.

5. Think you have enough underwear-pack MORE! I have like 60 pairs of underwear, I never have to double wear on the road! Seriously. I buy them as a habit whenever I see any I like. VS probably thinks I have stock in the company. I almost never have to do laundry. For travel nude is the best color and mesh is the best material. A nude mesh panty is comfortable, doesn't show through clothes, and leaves no panty lines (usually). Seriously though I hardly have to do laundry. Invest in undies or hire a laundress if you are gone often because if you travel often you never have the time. Dudes..ummm I don't know much about your travel underwear needs. :)

6. Dry Shampoo. If you are a blond and haven't had time to get to the salon and those roots are showing a tiny bit, dry shampoo will cover a small amount of root. It can also give you a subtle highlights when sprayed all over, plus it smells very nice. I use Suave.

7. Hair emergency on the road? Know how to put your hair up in a bun fast. It's easy. Just twist your hair, then spin it on the back of your head...in a bun shape. Take a rubber band and fasten around the bun...as you would a pony tail. I keep tons of hair bands and rubber bands around for fashion and hair styling emergencies. (or if I'm just hot.)

8. You will inevitably forget something, either at home or while on your trip. Accept this reality.

9.Gel eye drops. My eyes get super dry when I travel. Just ask any of my friends! So now I always take the gel eye drops. They are great for late night driving, air travel and dry hotels.

10. Those little travel bottles of bath and body works lotions come in handy. You can never moisturize enough!

12. Instead of face lotion try Oil of olay regenerating serum. OH wow does this stuff feel good on your skin! It repairs late night outs, to much sun and to much vodka. I use it all the time at home, and twice a day when I'm on the road.

13. Vitamin B-12. I get B-12 shots twice a month to keep my energy levels up. That's pretty important if you travel alot.

13.Tylenol. When I don't have it I always need it.

14. I buy perfume in travel sizes so I can always stash it in my bags. Plus it's more economical so I can have tons of brands.

15. If you are a girl..and this isn't a vacation....invest in a professional blow out and don't wash your hair until you get home or get them while on the trip 1x a week until you get home. Bring a good hairspray (I like freeze it or catwalk) and brush and spray down in the am. If you are traveling, who has two hours to do your hair everyday. Ok I realize that's just me but even 30 min is crazy in a hotel room. I also use olive oil serum daily too for frizz control..and it also comes in a handy travel size. I bring root spray to give me lift when it starts to look flat.

16. On the go say yes to cucumbers facial towelettes. Wash your face fast and the cucumbers feel refreshing.

17. Get those little disposable toothbrushes with the toothpaste on them already!! I love them. This way I no longer have to pack toothpaste, which always gets everywhere.

18. Mint foot lotion by Berts Bees after a long day in Hells..I mean Heels is amazing.

19. If you are a girl a nice train case for everything to stay neat AND a clear plastic make up pouch for essentials you need before the hotel room. If you are a guy just a large clear plastic toiletry pouch. The clear ones can be hard to find but they are all I will use. I hate looking for things!!

20. When I can (non air travel) I bring a sheet and pillow. I have stayed in some rotten hotels and MANY was the time that I did not want my body touching the hotel bedding. It's a nice thing to have because you never know when you will need it and I have REALLY needed it now and again. Even the nicest hotels may not have comfortable pillows!

21. Magazines. Some people prefer books, but when I travel I just want to look at the pictures. Reading takes to much concentrating while your driveing. I'm joking! I do like to flip through magazines in the hotel though, where as I'm usually to tired for a book.

22. Invest in several pairs of nice aloe infused socks. If your feet hurt you feel much more tired. Take care of them on the road and you will feel so much more energetic.

23. Clover and aloe travel tin candles. It really makes you feel so much more relaxed in your room after a hard day of work.

24. Cheap jewelry. I never wear anything on the road worth more than 10.00. Why risk losing it? In fact don't pack anything you can't stand to lose. This is why I have a cheap phone and cheap tablet.

25. Dab a little antibacterial ointment in your nose to help protect you from the myriad airborne contaminants circulating out there!

26. If you are staying with someone, get them a present. Seriously-learn the art of being gracious.

27. Wherever you  are, wherever you are going, bring snacks.

28. when you Do need to wear something dressy or short or whatever bring Sally Henson airbrush legs. I use it all over, even on my face. This stuff is amazing. There is no better beauty product out there. I am not exaggerating. Just try it and see. It will cover whatever needs covering on the road.

29. Dryer sheets make your bags smell awesome while taking up virtually no room.

30. Evian Mineral Water Spray. Traveling dries your skin out, plus it just feels really nice. Great also for after the gym or on a hot day. I always have this stuff with me. I use it almost every day.

31. Use a soft-sided bag. These have some give, so it can be crammed into tight spaces, but a too-big hard case will have to be checked.

32. Wrinkle Releaser!!!!!

33. If I am in a REALLY good mood, I'll bring a few cheap Nashville novelty items and give them away to people I meet.  I find it entertaining. do the same from your hometown, people love that kind of thing.

34. Make new friends by buying drinks. No one to talk to?? Buy someone else there alone a drink. Just make sure they know it isn't a come on.

35. Travel Light. Believe it or not I get all this stuff in two carry on bags and one large purse. No way I'm waiting for luggage after a long flight.

I hope everyone finds this helpful! Feel free to give me tips in the comments, I am always traveling so, I need all the help I can get!
